Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, Glide Wax: irrelevant, Grip Wax: irrelevant (you name it I tried it)

I hoped for a nice long ski with all this nice fresh snow. The park was beautiful and quite a few skiers were out. The skaters made their own skate lane, and by noon it looked almost as good as Demsis could have done. The classic, though, was a nightmare for me, and evidently for many others as well. The conditions were truly capricious. From no grip to 4 inche, snowy stilts changing from one moment to the next. Some skiers were actually carrying their skis up the Fortune parkway! And one man emerged from trail 9, carrying his skis.

Anyway, I went intending to enjoy the scenery, and so I did. In fact the highlight was sitting under the bird feeder at Shily Shally (my final, not very heroic destination), listening to the birds go at it. I have a lovely video of the bird song , and when I figure it out, I'll post it (but not here).

As far as grooming goes, since Demsis has already left the skiers to their own devices today, I truly hope they will hold off now until the temperatures reach the low point tonight, and that they don't do a late aftenoon pass ("groomed before 8:00 a.m."). It is suppoed to go down to minus 17 tonight and there is a relatively cold week coming up. If they do wait until the wee hours, and do a thorough job of tilling, conditions could be great for the next few days. I'm not holding my breath.
