Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, Champlain Pkwy, #1, #1 (green) (#2 - #24), #24, #40, #1 (blue), Glide Wax: Swix LF8 and LF10, Grip Wax:

A good day but not as great as Monday and Tuesday - but they were exceptional. I made it another lazy spring day made for slow easy skating.

My route was: P10 => FP => CP => Huron => #1 => #24 => bench on #40 => #24 => #1 => Blanchet => #1 => FP => P10

The snow was reasonably fast in the morning (particularly in the shade) but got softer and slower in the PM - the snow never got to the sucking slow stage but rather was just slow enough to make the uphills steeper and the downhills flatter. On the flat a lazy two-skate was almost euphoric. One advantage of the soft snow was that I was able to indulge myself with telemarks going down #24 and Khyber. The snow posed something of a challenge for classic waxing - some people were doing reasonably well while others were spinning - probably waxless or hairys would have been a good option.

All the trails skied on were in good shape and appeared to have been groomed recently. The skating track everywhere was flat; the classic tracks were diminishing in the warm weather

The benches are in excellent shape: the bench on #40 was good but a bit on the windy side; the bench, at the lookout on #1, was better and was a great spot to observe the ravens doing formation flying.
