Gatineau Park

Ski #1:Fortune - Champlain - Ridge to Western cutoff.
Ski #2: Doldrums

A late report from yesterday's two outings. I was skiing with a friend, so the morning ski (9:45) was earlier than I would have chosen on my own as overnight temperatures had been quite cold (minus 10). Demsis had done a half hearted job of renovating the skate lane on the parkways, and the experienced skaters who went by seemed to be enjoying it. The classic was left in its overnight icy state. Noisy, fast. Ridge looked too skied-out and icy for me to want to try it. After reading the fabulous reports from yesterday, I was disappointed. Considering how little grooming was done up until mid season in the park, and how full the parking lots are these weekdays, I was hoping Demsis would pull out all the stops this spring.

However, the weather was gorgeous and as the day warmed up things softened somewhat. And what a beautiful day for sitting at the lookout and chatting with friends! The snow was improving so much by about 12:30, that I went back for a second ski on the Doldrums at 2:30. Just a short little trial skate ski but conditions were just perfect (fast, controllable, just starting to soften) until about 3:00 when the sunny spots started to become slow.
