Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, Champlain Pkwy, #1, #1 (green) (#2 - #24), #24, Glide Wax: Swix LF8, Grip Wax:

I totally agree with Eric and Sheila - the conditions are fantastic for skating. This was by far the best day of the year for skating.

I made it an easy, lazy spring-time ski:
P10 => FP => CP => #1 => #24 => #1 => { Fen/pond between #1 & #24 } => #1 => Huron => CP => FP =>P10

André Fleury and the rest of the tracksetting team definitely showed the quality of grooming they are capable of. Every trail skied was in great shape - #24 was especially well done. I didn’t check out #40 but it looked good in passing. #1 blue has been done all the way.

Let me be the first to proclaim that the crust-cruising season has begun. I was able cruise all around the fen/pond. So long as you don’t edge too much you can float on top of the crust.

The best skiing, however, was on the warm rock beside the pond in full sun - I spent 3/4 hour there without any twig of conscience - bye-bye Calvinism and VO2max.

On the way back the FP was softening up and was becoming quite chopped up; however, all the trails on the ridge were holding up fine. Hopefully the FP will be groomed tomorrow.

There does not seem to be any snow lost to the thaw and rain. I measured 80 cm of snow off-track in a number of places. The only difference, from the last time I measured 80 cm of fluff. is that the snow is now firmer. Let’s think of a long season.
