Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, North Loop, #1 Penguin Climb, #1, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax: VR40, Swix Blue Extra

We skied late, after the Saturday crowds. It was such a relief to have such a quantity of snow down, after yesterday's rains. The weather was surprisingly raw, damp and windy despite the minus 6 temperature, and the wax was tricky. I never quite warmed up despite climbing Penguin.
It was a good ski, nontheless.

AS we started out we met two grooming machines in tandem, rolling and setting tracks.

Most of the Penguin hill was in excellent shape (and evidently well used, too) until two thirds of the way up, where there was a huge section of ice (see photo)from yesterday's thaw. It should have been much more clearly marked at both the top of bottom of the hill. As it was, there were a number of festive ribbons here and there in the trees.

Ridge was generally very good, although it did appear to have been groomed when still fairly wet - those regular telltale ski-width lines were in quite a few sections of fairly shallow track. There were some icy patches on some of the hills as well a section of unskiable ice from yesterdays thaw a bit east of Keogan.

Fortune was very good also, although the tracks were quite shallow and the skate lane rather chewed up from the day's traffic. The one thing that really slowed me down, though, was the beautiful sunset!

The classic tracks on the Doldrums appeared to have been groomed somewhat earlier. On the final stretch to P8, there were numerous chunks of hard snow alongside the classic track. It was a nice fast finish!
