Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, #1, #9, #40, #32, #36 (black), #36 (blue), #38, Glide Wax: Vauhti blue, Grip Wax: Vauhti carrot

Beautiful powder ski day. Like Paul, I cycled between brilliant blue sunshine and dark, angry snowstorms... and back again in the space of 10 minute intervals. As such grip wax choice was often not quite right - too sticky then no grip... but wait 10 minutes and it was fine again. Never was it really bad so I stuck with the carrot wax for the duration.

Did a loop of Meech lake today skiing out trail 36 then across Meech lake and up trail 40 to Ridge before looping down back along Ridge, Western and down the Fortune parkway. The groomed trails hadn't been groomed at least since yesterday but with fresh snow falling the skier grooming was great with a solid base underneath. Crossing Meech lake I lucked out and had a group breaking trail 20 or 30 minutes in front of me. They had exposed a few slushy spots but it was too warm for the slush to freeze to the skis so the crossing was fine.

Explored trail 38 (a BC trail) and it was so nice I looped onto Western and rode it all the way down to the parkway - beautiful powder made for easy/fast descents that were very forgiving. One last loop onto trail 32 where it parallels the Fortune parkway descent and I found it broken out by snowshoers. Interestingly in the lower half they had walked beside the ski track but up top I guess they got tired breaking trail and just walked straight up the ski trail instead. Not a big deal for me descending... except they'd used up the fresh powder :( Guess I have to get up there earlier to get first tracks.

As I got down to the Fortune Parkway at Western (about 3pm) I met two big groomers coming up the parkway grooming the skating lane. Seemed to be doing a good job as the skaters I met behind them had a little easier time of it. I can only assume they weren't grooming the classic tracks because there were so many people skiing in them at the time! More snow tonight so could be a similar day tomorrow.
