Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: MacKenzie-King Rd , #15 (blue), #15 (black), Pink Lake Access, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax: Vaughti Green

Short trip from Kingsmere to Pink Lake via trails 15, 35 and then back on the parkway. Although the temperatures were low, it didn\'t feel cold in the woods.

Based on the park website, which indicated no work done on trails 15 and 35, I was looking foward to skiing in ungroomed snow, and especially to being off the parkways. Some grooming had been done, however. There were basic classic tracks, and a very uneven, rough outside lane. The downhills were thoroughly skied in and featured moguls and bumps (one photo shows this, but it was too cold to take many photos) I know lots of skiers who would love the thrill of it but I would have preferred it left ungroomed. In fact I had a very spectacular crash - too bad there was no one around to appreciate it! After crossing Notch Road it improved (see second photo). However on trail 35, watch out for large patches of rock that have been scraped bare on the one big downhill(I side stepped!!)

The access road from Pink Lake was not groomed.

No complaints about the parkways. They were very good with real, standard classic tracks and a very hard-packed full-width skate lane.
