Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, Champlain Pkwy, #1, #1 (green) (#2 - #24), #24, #1 (blue), Glide Wax: Swix LF6, Grip Wax: Vauhti tar as base + Swix Blue

Did a classic loop around #24: from P10 via FP -> CP -> #1 -> #24 -> #1 -> CP -> FP -> P10. The parkways are good - the classic tracks are the best choice with drifted snow slowing down the skating track in places. After the Champlain lookout one develops a closer relationship with the underlaying shape of the park due to the thin base. There is complete coverage on #24 with no rocks showing; however, things are quite uneven and there is quite a bit of debris so that the downhill is not as enjoyable as normal. There are good tracks on both #24 and #40 - the tracksetting is as good as it can be given the lack of snow. Didn’t check out #40 but it looked good but it also had a lot of debris.

The was my first run around #24 this year - so it was a good day visiting an old friend. However, until we get more snow you will probably have a better ski sticking to #1 - it’s less uneven and doesn’t have the debris.

Much as we’re all getting sick of the parkways they’re probably the best option until the joker honours us with the great dump of January 2011.
