OWWT - Ottawa West Winter Trail

Trails Skied: Greenbelt Railway, Greenbelt South, Watts Central, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax:

Yesterday's fresh snow over a groomed base (Jan 21) made for good to excellent skate ski conditions today. The skiing wasn't fast, but the snow was generally smooth and control was very good. The 3-km Greenbelt South trail had been groomed yesterday for both skate and one classic track, and it was excellent everywhere this morning. The other trails I used were not groomed yesterday, but the conditions were very good for skating (I was surprised that conditions were so good after heavy multi-use weekend traffic) and the classic tracks looked and felt good. Note that the Greenbelt Railway trail (along the western border of Wesley Clover equestrian park) has a few places where open water is eroding the southbound classic track. I also skied a portion of the DND loop: fair skate conditions on a narrow trail, no classic trackset. Another great day for skiing.
