Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Gatineau Pkwy , Gatineau Pkwy, Champlain Pkwy, Glide Wax: LF 7, Grip Wax:

An early skate ski from P5. We skied between Penguin, Mulvihill and the top of Pink. For those who like hard, fast conditions this was the perfect morning! The tilling hasn't been very deep for several weeks, but it didn't seem to be bothering the many skiers who were out enjoying what is likely the final weekend of grooming. In fact I had an excellent ski, possibly the best of the year.
We had hoped 8:30 was early enough to ski from P10, but P8 was filled, and the P9 overflow was rapidly filling, so we switched to P5. Even P5 was almost filled when we arrived! I have skied in the park since 1994, but have never seen so many skiers out at one time!!Cross country skiing has really taken off!
Interesting side note about the lack of deep tilling: For at least two weeks I have been spotting the VERY SAME ACORN in EXACTLY the same spot on the Champlain parkway, on the right hand side of the skate lane, just up from Mica. The tilling has not yet managed to repel or bury it. (I will look for it again tomorrow if I'm in the area).
Anyway, today felt like a joyous party in the park. Let's hope it holds for a few more days.
