Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Gatineau Pkwy , North Loop, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax: skin skis

I would estimate Chelsea received 8cm of "snowman" snow this morning on top of whatever grooming was done overnight. By the time I started my ski around noon temperatures were rising through the freezing point and the snow was getting very sticky. I decided to ski classic rather than try and push through the thick layer on the skate lane. I did a lap of the Doldrums then crossed the road and skied up to the base of Penguin hill. The tracks on the Doldrums were fairly distinct, and there was just enough glide to make the skiing pleasant. Under the dripping trees the base of the tracks had turned to slush. On the return trip from Penguin base to P8 I had to double pole madly to open the tracks! I have never had such a slow descent on this hill. My skin skis had lots of grip and I had no problems with snow clumping on the grip zone. It was hardly a fast ski, but it was fun to be out and away from the news. With grooming overnight I think skiing could be quite good tomorrow morning as the temperature rises through the freezing point.
