The layer of fresh snow is helping the previously poor conditions, but not as much as I had hoped. The rivulets remain, some still have open water in them. I wiped out going down the hill on #12 as I tried to steer around a rivulet at low speed, as the top layer is very thin on top of the sheer ice that forms the base. There was heavy pedestrian traffic already on the east and south sides of trail #1, and snowshoe tracks on #12. The pedestrian traffic originates at the outdoor centre. It's way worse than in previous years, large groups are walking on ski trails for long distances immediately after fresh snow, and in some cases peeling off the fresh snow back down to the ice base. The new snow was sticky when I was out, but the air temp was only around -2. The trails were not yet groomed, so hopefully the pedestrian traffic did not destroy the new layer past the point of the grooming machine being able to fix it.

Kanata Nordic

Kanata Nordic ski club is a volunteer-run club dedicated to promoting lifelong activity, fitness and enjoyment of the outdoors through a variety of cross-country ski programs and activities offered in a friendly club setting. Established in 1979, Kanata Nordic now calls Wesley Clover Parks home with a growing trail-network for all skiers to enjoy. The club is a member of Cross Country Ontario (CCO) and Cross Country Canada (CCC).

The club grooms and maintains approx. 18km of trails at 401 Corkstown Road.

Trails are groomed 5 times per week by volunteer groomers. Tracksetting occurs after each significant snowfall and just prior to Saturday lessons (usually January through March). Trail conditions will vary depending on snowfall and snow conditions. Access to the club trails requires a membership or day-pass.
