Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, Champlain Pkwy, #1, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax: silver extra klister

my klister tube notes that silver extra is for wet dirty corn snow, which was close but not exactly the conditions. The FLP was hard and icy in the skate ski area and classic tracks were often icy and sometimes shallow or non-existent. That said, the weather was lovely and once up to the Fortune Lake area there was a marginal improvement in conditions. The best way forward from there was double poling along to gossip corner. Trail 1 was in poor shape, the climb up the Khyber icefield required a bit of work and the remainder of the trail to Huron had mini-crevasses as well as a small fallen tree that required climbing over. I decided to head back after getting to Huron Shelter. The run down the CP was easy, sometimes in the classic tracks but often in the skate ski area where the ice was softening, allowing better speed control. I saw three other skiers on the trails. I suspect P10 was not the optimal starting point but the descent from gossip corner allowed a semblance of control; I had wondered if I'd make it down in one piece but I survived without falling. Nice to have had a 5 month ski season and there's probably a few more days' skiing for the die-hards.
