Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, #1, #2 (blue), #3, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax: K15 (Minus 1 to minus 7)

An interesting and very enjoyable ski. It was minus 1 as we started out, with heavy snow squalls spitting snowy moth malls onto the trails. It was tricky to nail the grip wax as the temperature was forecast to drop 2 degrees an hour while we were out - which it did! The wax worked beautifully in the moth balls, as long as I didn't stop, but capriciously in the glazed tracks.
The classic tracks were well formed on the Fortune Parkway, but rather thin and often bumpy beyond Gossip Corner. Near Western the tracks were the most irregular, which was challenging to my already tenuous grip.
Enough negatives! The sun was shining, and there was a lovely skiff of fresh snow down. The trail down to Western was a joy to be on, as was Burma on the way back. I am not the best at step turns, but it was an easy day to manage them with good control and a sense of exhilaration at the same time. Classic was fun, and Burma was beautiful, but the oak leaves and poor grip made me slightly envious of Garry, who was, of course, skating.
By the time we arrived back at P10 the temperature had dropped to minus 5 and a chilly wind was blowing.
