Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: #50, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax:

Classic skiing on Trail 50 from P16 to the intersection of Trail 52 and back. The classic tracks were very shallow throughout, but the glide was reasonable for spring skiing in the morning. The return trip was considerably slower however. As Harris noted, there are some bare spots opening up but the most significant ones were actually between the "woodpecker" sign and Healey/Herridge. The first pic shows one that only affects the classic tracks, but the second pic shows one that is across the whole trail just before the stream east of the climb to Healey. There is another one right at the intersection of some unmarked trail just before Healey - it is easily avoidable on the uphill westbound section but sneaks up on at the last minute on the downhill eastbound return. From Healey to 52 the trail was snow-covered throughout. There are some icy sections on the descent back to P16 that are especially tricky is someone is climbed the hill on the left side and you are stuck on the right.

At the Healey cabin I did overhear a volunteer saying that DEMSIS will be grooming for at least one more week because there is snow in the forecast - so get out while you can and check the grooming reports. There's still snow in them thar hills but not all the trails have some!
