Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, #1B, #1 (green) (#2 - #24), #24, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax:

One of the best skate skiing days this season! Grooming was fresh at 8 am, firm and really fast. A dusting of fresh snow has improved conditions significantly, no icy spots anymore. Even the big ice lake on trail 1 near trail 3 was mostly covered.

I skied up the parkway, into 1 towards McKinstry. As on Friday, at trail 24 you have to do the detour via 24, trail 1 isn't groomed between its ends (still don't know why not). Once trail 24 meets 1 again, conditions are remarkable, both for classic and skate! It's worth making it there, and 24 is a really fun trail too! On the way back, I went via 1B, which had been groomed much earlier and had fresh snow on top, giving nice control. I also explored some more parts of the parkway and #1 towards P7. All in great shape! It's definitely firm, as I demonstrated with losing balance in the strong wind down from the T to Gossip corner and barely leaving a mark on the trail!

Weather was really nice and sunny, but quite some wind! Especially further up in some parts you had to hold your poles tight. But with such warm temperatures it wasn't bothersome beyond pushing you around a bit.

Since it won't warm up much, I expect conditions will remain excellent for skate this afternoon! Classic tracks might get faster and a bit icy, but nothing compared to the previous weeks thanks to the fresh snow. Still missing Burma, which doesn't seem to have been groomed at all lately. Maybe a few more cm of snow will help to get it back!
