Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, #1, #3, #9, #18, #20, #21, #11, #12, Glide Wax: blue, Grip Wax: blue

A slightly belated report from yesterday afternoon - but conditions haven't changed much (except maybe a bit colder this morning). An excellent ski around some of the groomers and out onto the backcountry trails. I circled around trying a bit of everything and found some excellent conditions. My wax choices were too warm for the conditions and the skis a little sluggish in terms of glide (but I still managed to enjoy myself). That probably still holds true today.

The groomed trails were firmly set and fast. A little dusting of snow was occasionally falling but nothing to build up too much in the classic tracks.

The backcountry trails were in great shape with the new snow over the weekend helping to cover the frozen tracks nicely. There were a few open water hazards here and there on the backcountry trails but they were fairly easy to spot and negotiate around. Interesting to see that someone is consistently skiing some of the old "lost and forgotten" trails which the NCC has abandoned. Hopefully those new to the backcountry network are carrying their 1970's ski trail maps (available on the XCOttawa site!) if they decide to follow these tracks in the woods.

If you can dress for the cold, the skiing looks excellent this week.

Gatineau Park is ski paradise! The network of ski trails offer machine groomed skate skiing and classic skiing as well as little groomed backcountry trails. Multiple access points allow skiers to access a variety of terrain and scenery. The NCC offers season or daily pay rates.
