Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: North Loop, Glide Wax: Swix LF10, Grip Wax:

I agree with Vesta’s report regarding the Doldrums. However, the Doldrums are a changing story - I hit them a bit later than Vesta and got good soft spring conditions with moderately good glide - no crust cruising. The skating track had been trackset and was quite easy; the classic tracks were not trackset but were still firm from yesterday and were icy at first then soft and slow (for my wife). Although the Doldrums are a changing story they should be a prevailing story - with the current snow depth they should provide good skiing for another week. It’ll be a question of choosing your time.

Just a bit of information for those who knew the former park regular Pierre Cholette.

I met Pierre today. He was skiing with his brother Jacques who has been taking him out on the North Loop three times a week. His condition has worsened: he recognized me immediately and greeted me but, although he recognized my wife, he could not remember her name; he didn’t recognize another skier who he used to know fairly well. He is able to communicate in both English and French but with difficulty. Despite his problems he is still able to ski reasonably well - to see him skiing without talking to him you wouldn’t realize there was any problem.
