Beatiful day to be out on the trails today. I skied classic out of P19. Took the back way over to 55 and then out to Taylor lake. From there I skied up to the Pontiac lookout before returning to Taylor, Renaud and a little ways out 50 before turning around and back to the car. The groomed runs were pretty close to perfect today though I was a little late in the day and things - in the direct sun - started to get slushy. My wax combo was ideal in the shade and gripless in the warm sunny tracks. I was tempted to switch to violet but decided just to double pole or - should the track turn uphill - skate up to the next bit of shade where once again my grip returned.

From Taylor lake I skied up 56 to the Pontiac lookout which I hadn't been to yet this year so didn't want to miss out. Trail 56 was pretty sketchy. The last users had been a snowshoe team who had clearly been out on a warm afternoon. They had left shallow postholes leaving the track a bit bumpy and rutted. Unfortunately the crust wasn't too supportive or I would have "cruised" up but little by little I made my way employing a variety of techniques (some classic, some skating... a little scootering, whatever kept me moving forward ;). Beautiful to sit on the bench in the sun so all worthwhile. The descent was a little challenging but got down okay and happy to be back on the groomers.

Lots of people had found the good sunny spots and were enjoying some warm bench/rock/log sitting. Another good day tomorrow and then an ill wind (for skiers) starts to blow. What will be left next weekend?
