Beautiful day for a ski and perhaps my last chance of the season to ski such lovely groomed tracks on real snow. Who knows what the warm winds will bring by weeks end? Skied out of P7 climbing up to Ridge before making a detour down to Fortune lodge to take a lap of the Race course. The loop had been freshly groomed both classic and skate and I was only the second person on it today. A lot of fun rollers in there and always worth the time to ski it. But pay attention! I let my mind wander to the beautiful forest for a moment on one inocuous section and it promptly dropped me to the deck! Soft landing though and I concentrated harder for the remaining loop.

From there I took a chance on an easier section of Merry go Round. Unlike Ron I found this backcountry trail not to my liking... although, to be fair, I was on one of the black BC trails and I think he was wiser to ski the green and blue BC trails. I found Merry-go-round to be crusty on a soft base and had difficulty maintaining control. I probably spent most of my time removing branches and debris from Saturdays windstorm as skiing so I jumped off at the Fortune Parkway and went up to the lookouts instead.

My return trip up Ridge was great on nicely groomed tracks. I did a short detour out onto 6 and discovered they had groomed it... umm, kind of. As my photos will attest it was kind of strange. Clearly it had been compacted quite wide with skidoos and then trackset (1 lane) up the middle. There was plenty of room for 2 tracks but instead they had set one "lane" with wide shoulders. It was very nice skiing but a bit ugly to my eye. Ah well, for those that like trail 6 trackset - get out there tomorrow if you can. For those that dislike it trackset... head somewhere else I suppose ;)
