Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: #2 (blue), #24, #33, #40, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax:

Starting at Meech we went up Trail 40 and turned left onto Trail 24, a brief stretch on the Ridge Road and down Trail 2 to Western Lodge. We returned via Trails 2, 33 and 40.

The snow was really lovely but quite different from yesterday, a lot wetter and slower. This was good because otherwise I’d find the downward journey a bit challenging. The trails were quite carved up in the middle by the skiers and hadn’t been groomed. Sometimes there was a bob sleigh dip in the middle, sometimes two. But it turned out not to be a problem because the snow was so soft. In fact, I think my determinedly wide snow plough flattened out a few of the dips carved out by people like my husband who mostly go straight down the trails.

As Paul reported below, it started to snow at about 4 PM making it quite delightfully beautiful descending through the trees. We met quite a few people on the way up, a dozen or so, but on the way back it was so quiet, the only noise was our skis.

Probably my last ski this season as I leave for a trip tomorrow, but as Craig mentioned, maybe there will be April skiing. Best wishes to all skiers and reporters. Have a great March!
