Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Champlain Pkwy, #1B, Champlain Pkwy, MacKenzie-King Rd , #1 (green) (#2 - #24), #24, #1 (blue), Glide Wax: Vauhti blue, Grip Wax: Vauhti Tar then Swix Extra Blue

Skied from P6 out to McKinstry today. Started a little later in the day and was initially thinking skating would have been a good choice as it took me a while to dial in the grip wax from a selection I had brought. As it started to snow however my choice of Vauhti Tar (0 to -2C) started to work great so I continued out Ridge road to McKinstry (Must have missed Karl and his birthday crew - best wishes!). Sadly just short of the hut my skis started to ice up as I suspect the temperature dropped a little and there was getting to be a lot of fresh wet snow. Trudged to the hut and scrapped off the ice before going to Extra blue. This worked quite well for most of my trip back but once again started to ice by the time I got to Champlain lookout. Out of wax tricks in my bag I periodically kicked off the ice and got good grip/glide for a few hundred meters before it started to bind up and I'd have to repeat the process. Not one to say a bad word about fresh snow I bit my tongue and skied on finally getting back to the car slightly longer than I had anticipated. It was indeed a beautiful day in the woods regardless of my wax woes. As the evening winds picked up it was a little like being in a chandelier shop during an earthquake as the icy branches tinkled all around me.

On the plus side there was probably 4 or 5 cms of new snow on the ground when I was pulling away (and still falling) so one would think they will groom up the primary trails in the morning so we can all try again!
