Commuted to work from Island Park Drive again today. Big difference in temperature between the morning and evening! The trail is holding up well. No new grooming and over the day, drifts had developed in places and there was some debris on trail by evening in the area west of Island Park Drive. The snow is packed well enough so there's still good coverage - let's just say I wasn't on rock skis today and wasn't too worried about it. I was on classic skis and found that where the snow has drifted in the tracks, it's slow. But the skate lane was fast.

Most important point? The sunset was gorgeous!!!

Report for 2019-01-13. Dave and crew were out grooming. Classic tracks were mostly present, although worn away in places. Skate lane looked pretty nice for the most part. All tracks were firm. A few icy places (under the bridge and at the end of Parkdale). Overall, a great ski given the lack of snow. Kudos to the grooming team for all their work to make the minimal snow usable!

I cannot get over how wonderful it is to be able to commute (at least part way) to work by skis. Big thanks to the SJAM trail crew for making this possible! I especially appreciate the trail extension up into Tunney\'s Pasture.

I\'ve been out both yesterday and this morning - the snow has really helped and the trail is holding up well under lots of traffic. The wooded areas (e.g., extension into Tunney\'s, Kitchissippi woods) have better coverage while the tracks on the bike paths are fairly good. I noticed some icy patches this morning and tracks are glazed. It may be challenging for grip, but I\'m on an old pair of waxless skis and am double poling most of the way, so can\'t really say. Skate lane looks pretty good.

About Skiing the SJAM Winter Trail..

A groomed multi-use winter trail along the Sir John A. Macdonald (SJAM) multi-use pathway (MUP) will promote active living and provide access to the Ottawa River shoreline, welcoming a diversity of users, whether they are walking, on skis, snowshoes or a snow bike. The salt-free trail will respect environmental sensitivities unique to the river shoreline.

The trail will connect the Canadian War Museum with park lands along the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway to Westboro Beach, animating spaces that until now have been little used in the winter. Transit stations border the trail at LeBreton Flats, Bayview/O-train and Dominion Stations, with parking at Westboro Beach, Champlain Park and the Canadian War Museum, providing ready access for visitors from around the National Capital Region.

Two tracks will be set, one for snowshoers, walkers and bikers and the other for cross-country skiers, supporting both classic and skate style techniques. The walking track will follow the existing pathway. Serpentine loops will add distance to the ski track at the Selby Plains and Remic Rapids greenspaces and at open lands adjacent to the War Museum and Champlain Bridge, for an expected distance of 16 kilometres. more..
