Had a good 15 km skate on the trail, as the temp started rising this afternoon. The trail is in overall good shape, with some debris from wind in areas but it was not really an issue. I was surprised at how well you can glide on the trail right now, I was expecting very slow snow from the last two days of extreme cold but that was not the case at all. There had been grooming, some of it seemed very recent.

Short skijor from Lemieux Island to War Museum and back this morning. Temperature around -20 with a little wind, but I'm getting used to that by now. About 5-6 skiers and 3-4 walkers on the trail at this time. Conditions were good - the skate portion of the trail was still holding up pretty well under the cold conditions and the classic tracks were mostly good. A few wind-blown sections of the trail but overall a decent day for skiing. The dogs had fun too.

Skated the whole trail this afternoon. Total of 15.5 km. It is in very good shape right now, and I came across Dave out there grooming the skate lanes. The snow is slow because of the weather, but anything that Dave had groomed in the last hour was noticeably faster so you want to find his newest corduroy, it is sweet.

It was cold out, but not that windy, so a good day to ski.

Attached a map of the current route.

Skied Island Park past Westboro Beach. Trails were recently groomed and in good shape, although the fields on the south side past Westboro Beach were a little slow. Classic tracks were in good shape except for the high-traffic areas around Island Park. A little chilly but overall a nice day for skiing in the city!

Beautiful morning ski on the SJAM trail! Grooming had just been completed and the trail is in great shape. Skate was of course soft and a bit slower because of the fresh snow, classic tracks in excellent shape. There was a lot of creative grooming with the classic tracks, so a fun ski to discover them. I skied all the way from Westboro beach to the end in the east, even went over the road with skies thanks to the fresh snow. Presumably after some traffic this won't be possible anymore.

Surprisingly many skiers out at 8 am, all enjoying the great conditions! With more snow tonight, should also be great tomorrow!

Skated almost the whole SJAM trail in a snowstorm this afternoon. The coverage is very good already for the season, you can use good skis. There was 2-3 cm of fresh snow and the glide was good. After today's snowfall and the next grooming, the trail will be in excellent condition.

If you ski it all of it, there is about 6 km worth west of the Champlain bridge and about 9 km worth (plus a couple spots I missed) east of the bridge. A great convenient trail overall.

About Skiing the SJAM Winter Trail..

A groomed multi-use winter trail along the Sir John A. Macdonald (SJAM) multi-use pathway (MUP) will promote active living and provide access to the Ottawa River shoreline, welcoming a diversity of users, whether they are walking, on skis, snowshoes or a snow bike. The salt-free trail will respect environmental sensitivities unique to the river shoreline.

The trail will connect the Canadian War Museum with park lands along the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway to Westboro Beach, animating spaces that until now have been little used in the winter. Transit stations border the trail at LeBreton Flats, Bayview/O-train and Dominion Stations, with parking at Westboro Beach, Champlain Park and the Canadian War Museum, providing ready access for visitors from around the National Capital Region.

Two tracks will be set, one for snowshoers, walkers and bikers and the other for cross-country skiers, supporting both classic and skate style techniques. The walking track will follow the existing pathway. Serpentine loops will add distance to the ski track at the Selby Plains and Remic Rapids greenspaces and at open lands adjacent to the War Museum and Champlain Bridge, for an expected distance of 16 kilometres. more..
