Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: #50, #54 (green), #55 (green - shared), Glide Wax: Blue, Grip Wax:

Skied out of P19 today going along trail 50 to the end of the lake and out 55 to Taylor lake. Light layer of fresh snow over the tracks which had turned a little crusty and lumpy after yesterdays rain and warm weather. For the most part it was very nice skiing with an occasional tap as the ski pole hit the asphalt beneath. A little offputting to find the walkers and snowshoers using the skating lane to walk (presumably) into the huts. Not usually one to complain but it was frustrating as there was a perfectly good snowshoe/walkers track just a few feet off to the side of the ski tracks... but I guess you can't walk 4 abreast and chat over there. I tried skiing in the snowshoers lane since it wasn't being used but it was a little narrow. Ah well, so it goes. The chewed up track kept me on my toes.

Skied up trail 54 to Lusk lake as well. No track setting as yet as there is very little snow but the daily skidoo runs to check on the cabin have made a pretty good (albiet thin)skating lane - but no classic tracks to be seen. At the area where the trail washed out last summer they have built a small bypass trail which is pretty rough (owing mainly to the lack of snow) but servicable to get around the rocky churned up creekbed. Lots of big signs and haybales to warn (especially those coming down the hill) of the detour. The big groomers will likely turn around here (if we ever get enough snow for them) Beyond this point, I suppose, will be a skidoo laid classic track only. Since there wasn't any grooming as yet - other than the smooth(ish) skidoo tracks - it was a very nice skate up to Lusk lake.
