Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Gatineau Pkwy, #24, #5 (green), #15 (blue), #15 (black), #26, #29 (alternative), #29 (shared), Glide Wax: Vauhti Blue, Grip Wax: Vauhti Tar -1..-6 + Vauhti Orange

Great afternoon for my first ski of the year. Temperature was -9C, light snow turning to ice crystals at the end. Tar+carrot combo worked perfectly in the loose tracks. Trails were generally pretty firm with a bit of new powder on top. Parkways were wide, level and well trackset but a bit slower than the trails. Trail #5 was good for classic but too narrow for skating (for me) and only a track on one side. Trail #15 was surprisingly good. Bumpy, but only a few easily avoidable rocks showing on the two steeped uphills, heading towards Pink from the power line. Trail #29, star of the Gloppet was rough but you can get to Relais Pleine Aire easily by going on Trail #26. The 5cm of snow and ice pellets forecast for tonight will greatly help, since that should be enough for the groomers to get the big machines on the trails to widen and flatten everything. Should be a great weekend for skiing!
