Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, Champlain Pkwy, #1, #1 (green) (#2 - #24), Glide Wax: LF10, Grip Wax:

Skated from P10 to the green water tank on #24

The sun was excellent - the coverage was excellent - the skiing should have been excellent. However, as Gary has already amply described, because of the failure of Demsis to honour the contract and groom this morning the early morning skiing was difficult and, with the icy ruts, potentially dangerous. I have attached further photos to show just how much snow there is in the park - there is no legitimate reason for Demsis to not groom. If Demsis had groomed this morning the early conditions would have been exceptionally good.

As the snow softened conditions became more manageable and became more pleasant. Later in the day they became somewhat slow.

A caveat for tomorrow the melt-water is running into the snow; this water will freeze solid tonight. Because there will be no grooming, the ski up to the ridge will not be easy.

The announcement that there would be no further grooming was twinned with the results of a rather strange survey which showed that a 97% level of satisfaction among park users. The questions in the survey did not address the operation of the park but, rather, asked if users had warm feelings toward the park - no surprise that park users would have warm feelings toward the treasure of Gatineau Park. My concern is that the results of this meaningless survey will be extrapolated to indicate a support for Demsis operation. There is a high level of dissatisfaction with the Demsis operation over the past four seasons.
