Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: #50, #54 (green), #55 (green - alternative), Glide Wax: Vauhti green with Vauhti speed blue top coat, Grip Wax:

Skated today out of Lac Phillipe. Conditions were pretty good considering the temperature swing we had. Groomers had rolled on 50 and 55 with decent results. A few icy patches and a few stretches of "corduroy" perpendicular to the skiing line. I envision the groomers sled chattering through the icy snow leaving a bit of washerboard behind. Not so bad though to be unskiable just a little bumpy. Classic tracks looked good with a dusting of fresh snow in the grooves.

Skied up to Lusk cabin which had not been groomed today other than a visit from a skidoo. Midway up the second steep pitch I realized it would be tricky descending... But figured it was too late at that point and skied on to the cabin anyway. First pitches up to Lusk had a lot of debris - twigs and such - but beyond the second climb the track was quite nice with a dusting of snow over the base. The ride down was indeed a little dicey but made it down in one piece. If conditions are like this in the south end of the park expect fast times in the loppet tomorrow.
