Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: #50, #51, #53, #54 (green), #55 (green - shared), Glide Wax: Swix LF8, Grip Wax: Swix VF40 (0 to -1 fluor) over yesterdays Vauhti carrot

It was a soft day for an easy tour from P17 to Lusk Lake: P17 -> #53 -> #51 -> P19 -> #50 -> #55 -> #54 green -> Lusk cabin and back. My wax combination worked beautifully throughout the day with good glide and good kick - the fluor kick held even on the steeper hills - I never had to use the much-to-be-avoided herringbone. The route from P17 to P19 (#53 & #51) had been trackset this AM and was in great shape. The remainder of #53 (from the intersection with #51 to P19) has not been trackset this weekend; however, since it has not been heavily used looked to be in good shape. #50 and #55 were trackset this AM and for classic were great. #54 has not been trackset this weekend and is suffering from a lot of usage - the classic tracks were becoming flat - the skating track looked difficult (it’s seldom easy) with a lot of ruts and is quite narrow - the skating track is unpleasant at the bottom with a lot of gravel and bare spots - things improve as you move up the hill with more snow depth toward the lake. For the real skiers, #54 black has a solid well used track on it.

Garry has a good review of the state of #50 for skating - my only comment is that it looked better today than yesterday with fewer ridges. It would be great to be able, once again, to have a skate from P16 to Taylor Lake on a flat track.
