Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, Champlain Pkwy, #1, #1B, Glide Wax: Swix HC purple, Grip Wax:

Go west, young man (or young lady) if you want good skiing!

Skied from P10 up Fortune Pkwy to Ridge, then west. Fortune Pkwy was in good condition despite being packed down by heavy traffic. Ridge between Fortune and Huron was fair, with the usual annoying raised center and quite a few significant bumps in the narrow skate lane. Ridge between Huron and 1B was more of a mogul run than a cross country ski trail, with some amazing bumps and hollows. 1B was quite good, with a single classic lane. Snow coverage on 1B was nearly complete- I saw one slightly exposed rock on the steepest hill. West of #2, Ridge was in excellent condition, with a very wide, level skate lane and two good classic tracks. There was a couple of cm of fresh powder and no sign of recent grooming, but skate conditions were still superb. I turned around where the snowshoe trail comes up from Meech Lake, but the good conditions extended further, probably all the way to McKinstry. Tomorrow could be a good day for a run to McKinstry or perhaps even the Fire Tower for those who can escape work. Skiing is definitely best on the far west section of Ridge Road.
