Gatineau Park

It was much too nice a day to do a calvinist ski so, instead I took my favourite classic tour for days like this:
P10 -> FP -> CP -> #1 -> #18 -> #21 -> #20 -> Western #9 -> Burma #3 -> FP -> P10
This loop incorporates a bit of everything from parkway skiing to bushwacking - the small lake on #20 is the best part - surrounded by white pines and great sun!!

With about 7 cm of new snow everything was in great shape. The parkways had been trackset - the classic tracks were a delight; the skating track was good but soft and with the cold snow was on the slow side. The back-country trails had a good base and good tracks - #18 was the only trail where I had to break trail - it would appear that bushwackers are earlier risers than the more dilettante skiers. #1 had been trackset as far as the intersection with #2. #2 was trackset and looked good but was still bumpy. Burma had not been trackset; regardless, it was a nice change to take it in the old-style skiing - it had reasonably good skier-set tracks all the way - two people had skated it but it looked like it was a rough go. The ditches are still showing on Burma so that the trail becomes quite narrow in places. A bit of caution is advised on the downhills on Burma: there are two open springs at interesting transition points where the downhill rapidly changes to uphill; the last run down to the parkway is a narrow furrow that would make a good luge run were it not for the bumps - there are high ridges of loose snow on both sides that shoehorn you into the furrow so at the top you need to decide if you’re going for deep-snow or a luge-run - the good news is that there are no rocks or ice showing in the luge-run ... yet.
