Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Champlain Pkwy, #1 Penguin Climb, #1, #1B, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax:

Went up the back of Penguin from P7. There's fresh snow machine grooming from the parking lot, an attempt to widen the trail and push the classic tracks further towards the edge. The work must have been done this morning as it was still very soft. The top of Penguin has lots of gravel mixed into the snow, avoid it if you value your bases. If coming down avoid the grey sections they are ice or rocks. Likewise for Kyber pass.

Ridge itself was decent. It's been snow machine "packed", but they made the intelligent decision not to touch the skier made classic tracks even though they encroach the center skating lane. The tracks as a result are firm and well set, though wide and meandering. On the plus side they are far enough from the edge that your poles don't sink into the ditch. The fact that the tracks are much closer together is likely the result of Ridge Road's new "super crown" in some areas. We might not get enough snow to level that off this season.

The parkways are in good shape. They appear to have been groomed with a larger machine, and are double track set on either side. Coverage is thin near Huron and Champlain, but generally thick enough for good skis. All in all we're back to pre-meltdown, La-nina, low snow skiing conditions.
