Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Gatineau Pkwy , Champlain Pkwy, Champlain Pkwy, Glide Wax: CH8, Grip Wax:

Fresh grooming on the Gatineau Parkway, extending at least down to Pink Lake (where I turned around) and almost certainly all the way to P3. This fresh grooming below the Gatineau/Champlain junction (Mica intersection) was probably the first in over a week (see Dev Paul's report of Dec. 23). The grooming was NOT reported on the Park website this morning, although it does now appear in the afternoon report. With the fresh grooming, skating conditions near Pink Lake were excellent. It's sad to think how many more km's of available trail we would have had if the stretch from P3-Mica had been groomed occasionally over the past two weeks. There was certainly enough snow to groom between at least Mica and Pink Lake. It looked like the Champlain Parkway had not been groomed since yesterday, but it was still in excellent shape. Overall skate conditions on the parkways are excellent, and will probably hold until tomorrow morning. Despite temperatures near the freezing point, the snow is not yet wet. Classic looked pretty good too.
