Green Belt

Trails Skied: 51, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax: blue extra v40

air temp -5C and windy, but essentially no wind chill on the trail. We did trail 51 clockwise, then another loop in a counter-clockwise direction. Lots of people out, families, snowshoers, walkers, fat-bikers and classic skiers. Classic track was so-so within a km of P20, but better after that. Not comparable with Joanne's pictures of the tracks in the Gatineau Hills however. Grip wax worked well. Scenery was lovely, but like Don, I'm missing the Gatineau Hills. Mer Bleue is a little bit hillier than the SHE Trail, but that's not saying much!

Kichi Sibi Winter Trail

The National Capital Greenbelt has over 100km of trails and another 25km of recreational pathways, most of which are suitable for cross-country skiing in the wintertime. All of the trails are suitable for beginner and family outings. Some are now maintained by volunteer groomers; OWWT, BWT, SHE, Kichi Sibi.

ONSC grooms The Hornet's Nest (Tauvette street to Montreal Rd), Mer Bleue and Pine Grove Forest (the section off Leitrum Rd). Trails are classic skiing ONLY, no skating is allowed on these trails. The Hornet's Nest is groomed at least weekly and the others as time permits. Updated trail conditions are available at the snow phone; 613-837-SNOW.
