Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Gatineau Pkwy, Champlain Pkwy, #5 (green), #27, #29 (shared), Glide Wax: CH7, Grip Wax:

There was once again 5-star skate skiing on the Parkways this morning. I got out early and was able to take advantage of relatively fresh corduroy, which provided a perfect combination of control and glide on my trip from P2 up the GP and CP to Mulvihill Lake, then back to the Asticou area before returning to P2. Poles no longer hit pavement, but the snow pack is very thin and in a few places (easily avoided) small pavement patches were visible. The classic tracks were generally deep and well-formed, making for fast descents. In a few places frozen grass can be seen at the bottom of the classic tracks. The connecting trails between P2 and the Parkway were in great shape. At 8:30AM I pretty much had the trails to myself, but by 10AM it was getting quite busy, particularly between the base of the Pink Lake hill and Asticou. Get out and ski if you can, it doesn't get much better than this (particularly if, like me, you prefer temperatures just a bit below freezing).

Gatineau Park is ski paradise! The network of ski trails offer machine groomed skate skiing and classic skiing as well as little groomed backcountry trails. Multiple access points allow skiers to access a variety of terrain and scenery. The NCC offers season or daily pay rates.
