Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, #1, #1 (green) (#2 - #24), Glide Wax: CH8, Grip Wax:

Amazingly, there was still dry powdery snow at the top of the escarpment just before noon. I skated from P10 to Ridge, west up the Khyber Pass and along Ridge to the Wolf Trail, then returned via the parkways. There were a few ice chunks on the trail below Fortune Lake, but nice powdery snow higher up. As is often the case the best snow was around 1A, where mid-winter conditions still hold. The classic tracks were strange- the base was icy fast in places, yet I could feel suction in others. It's probably a better day for skate than classic. I'll second Etienne's comment- get out and ski if you can before it rains! With no sunshine and temperatures just above the freezing point I think there will be good dry snow up high right through the afternoon.
