I went up in the rain to see if there was a little snow on the hardpack and ended up driving through a blizzard from Chelsea on. It was the first time this winter I felt like I needed 4 wheel drive, although it was plowed an hour later. Skiing was good in 6-8 cm of new, wet snow. Even difficult trails would work with that coverage. There was some clumping under the kick zone so prolonged downhills would be an advantage.
