Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, #1 Penguin Climb, #1, #3, Glide Wax: CH7, Grip Wax:

This morning brought a surprise snowfall to the park, ending around noon. I estimate about 5cm of snow fell over the past 24 hours. I took advantage of the fresh powder to skate from P5 up Penguin Hill, west on Ridge Road to Burma, down Burma to the FLP, then back to Ridge and P5. Skating was a bit of a slog on the parkways, but considerably faster on Ridge Road where skier traffic had provided some self-grooming. Classic tracks were still distinct. The snow was warm enough to give quite good glide in and out of the tracks. The fresh snow offered great control on the steep downhills on Burma and Penguin, although by the time I descended the Penguin saddle it was already getting snowplowed down to a hard base. Needless to say there were lots of skiers out enjoying the warm temperatures and great conditions.
