Green Belt

Trails Skied: 10, Glide Wax: universal, Grip Wax: green (polar as a binder wax)

This report covers the Larose Forest trails off of hwy 8 outside of Bourget ON. Fair to good track conditions from P2 across to the other side (P1) and down towards the Perron Loop. The first third of the trail from P2 heading west was a bit thin and crunchy, with a hard base and a thin layer of dry snow. Skiing was noisy and the sides tended to grab at my skis. Further on the tracks were cleaner and deeper and I was able to really pick up speed. The connecting tracks from P2 south down towards the Perron Loop are closed due to logging operations but can be accessed by the 6th concession trail which was groomed for both classic and skate. Green wax worked very well but had to reapply due to the coarse nature of the snow.

Kichi Sibi Winter Trail

The National Capital Greenbelt has over 100km of trails and another 25km of recreational pathways, most of which are suitable for cross-country skiing in the wintertime. All of the trails are suitable for beginner and family outings. Some are now maintained by volunteer groomers; OWWT, BWT, SHE, Kichi Sibi.

ONSC grooms The Hornet's Nest (Tauvette street to Montreal Rd), Mer Bleue and Pine Grove Forest (the section off Leitrum Rd). Trails are classic skiing ONLY, no skating is allowed on these trails. The Hornet's Nest is groomed at least weekly and the others as time permits. Updated trail conditions are available at the snow phone; 613-837-SNOW.
