Green Belt

Trails Skied: 10, Glide Wax: universal, Grip Wax: blue

This report covers the Ski Heritage East trail in Orleans. First time on the SHE trail. I've lived here in Orleans off and on for close to 40 years and used to ski the pathways along the river back in the 80's and 90's but gave up when I discovered groomed skiing in Gatineau Park. I was aware of the SHE trail since 2018 but didn't bother expecting the tracks to be walked on, but saw well formed machine groomed tracks today. The trail runs from Trim Road in the East as far as Green Creek in the west. I only got as far as Grey Nuns drive and encountered fair to good to excellent tracking at shallow to mid depths. Access points include the end of Champlain street, Orleans blvd, Trim Rd and Tenth Line

Kichi Sibi Winter Trail

The National Capital Greenbelt has over 100km of trails and another 25km of recreational pathways, most of which are suitable for cross-country skiing in the wintertime. All of the trails are suitable for beginner and family outings. Some are now maintained by volunteer groomers; OWWT, BWT, SHE, Kichi Sibi.

ONSC grooms The Hornet's Nest (Tauvette street to Montreal Rd), Mer Bleue and Pine Grove Forest (the section off Leitrum Rd). Trails are classic skiing ONLY, no skating is allowed on these trails. The Hornet's Nest is groomed at least weekly and the others as time permits. Updated trail conditions are available at the snow phone; 613-837-SNOW.
