Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Fortune Pkwy, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax:

I didn't intend to ski again, but a friend accidentally reminded me that I hadn't yet "portaged" this year. I really did expect it to be a hike, and was very surprised and pleased to see how much snow still remained on the Parkway. The snow was clean from all the recent rain. It was a slow trip, with many photo breaks, but it was possible to keep the skis on except for one tiny spot past Fortune Lake. The entire first 1.5 k was solidly snowed in with deep snow. No cyclists today! I turned left at the top of Fortune, on a remaining narrow band and enjoyed nice snow until halfway down the next hill, at which point I turned back. I checked out a few hundred meters of Ridge (no big hills). There is still a lot of thawing ahead of us on the trails!
It was a delightful morning to be out, abounding in creek burblings and bird song. The grassy edges were popular with hordes of finches.
Aside from one fat-biker, I had the place to myself until several groups of hikers and two other skiers appeared later in the morning.
So that's it for me. I'm done. It was a great year! Thank you Demsis. Without the wonderful grooming earlier in the year, the snow would never have lasted this long on the trails.

By the way, this is the latest date I have ever ski. 5 days later than in 2008.
