Green Belt

Trails Skied: 46, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax:

I originally planned to try Trail 43 from P18, but there was no sign of any ski tracks and lots of foot traffic. So I went to P19, where the skier tracks would have been OK if they had not been totally covered by boot prints. Obviously done a couple of days ago during the warm weather, as some of the boot prints were 6-12 inches deep and had obliterated the ski tracks in many areas. Add in some pine needle debris and dog poop and it was another disappointing ski in the Greenbelt. If the NCC is not going to groom these trails, then at least they could forget this "multi-use" farce and set aside some trails that are for cross-country skiing only.

Kichi Sibi Winter Trail

The National Capital Greenbelt has over 100km of trails and another 25km of recreational pathways, most of which are suitable for cross-country skiing in the wintertime. All of the trails are suitable for beginner and family outings. Some are now maintained by volunteer groomers; OWWT, BWT, SHE, Kichi Sibi.

ONSC grooms The Hornet's Nest (Tauvette street to Montreal Rd), Mer Bleue and Pine Grove Forest (the section off Leitrum Rd). Trails are classic skiing ONLY, no skating is allowed on these trails. The Hornet's Nest is groomed at least weekly and the others as time permits. Updated trail conditions are available at the snow phone; 613-837-SNOW.
