Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: #1B, #2 (blue), #2 (from #40 to #1), #9, #20, #21, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax: blue extra vr40

A bit colder than we expected, but still a good ski. Air temp around -13C but a very icy wind which seemed to hit us on all trails. Conditions varied. Trails 40 and 2 were beautifully groomed but tracks were very hard and icy. Trail 21 was bizarre: poling tracks were like a meringue and the ski tracks were not at all well defined. Trail 20 was the same. Trail 9 between 20 and 1 was tough to negotiate - we both crashed on a downhill section. It also had more than its fair share of leaves in the tracks. At Western Shelter, its outhouse was in dire need of maintenance. Inside the main cabin, nobody had bothered to refill the wood. It was a bit risky because of the ice by the woodpile but we did replenish the stack by the stove. I had one more crash, on trail 2 returning to P12. The corduroy between the classic tracks had icy chunks on the surface which led to my downfall. All that said, it was still a great day out! Best to stick to the groomed trails however.
