Green Belt

Trails Skied: 44, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax:

Lots of new snow and no grooming so the tracks were skier-made. For the most part the tracks were fine for a leisurely ski. There is one track with another coming in and out but which is much more difficult to travel on. The snow is deep so you sink in occasionally and your poles will often sink in quite far.

There were quite a few people out but you rarely come across them. There are a fair number of walkers and people on snow-shoes so there is competition for the path. Even when someone has passed over the second, dubious track on snow shoes it is still possible to reform the classic track.

Kichi Sibi Winter Trail

The National Capital Greenbelt has over 100km of trails and another 25km of recreational pathways, most of which are suitable for cross-country skiing in the wintertime. All of the trails are suitable for beginner and family outings. Some are now maintained by volunteer groomers; OWWT, BWT, SHE, Kichi Sibi.

ONSC grooms The Hornet's Nest (Tauvette street to Montreal Rd), Mer Bleue and Pine Grove Forest (the section off Leitrum Rd). Trails are classic skiing ONLY, no skating is allowed on these trails. The Hornet's Nest is groomed at least weekly and the others as time permits. Updated trail conditions are available at the snow phone; 613-837-SNOW.
