Nakkertok Val des Monts (North)

Trails Skied: #1 - A,B,C,D,E,K, Beaver Valley Bridge, Trail, Glide Wax: Blue, Grip Wax: Carrot + K21

If your are skiing the Weber Loppet tomorrow you are in for a treat! Owing to other comitments tomorrow we skied the course today. The trail has been well compacted all week, and the base is excellent. Signage was up and it was easy to follow with 1km all along the route. Its wide and flat and probably better than any other year. By tomorrow there will be tracks, and with warmer temps it should be pretty fast. Today we mostly cut our own tracks through 10-15cm of powder which took us ~3hrs. No records were set, but we thoroughly enjoyed the great skiing.

Big thanks to the grooming team that maintains Nakkertok Val des Monts and those that groomed for the loppet. We noticed as we approached Lamaroux that the grooming seemed more recent. It wasn't long until we ran into the groomer at the check point. He'd gone from lamoureaux to North and back. And from Lamoureaux to South it was deeper again, but we eventually made it to Haycock where it had been skied in and it was a nice ride down from there.

Enjoy the Loppet!

Nakkertok also has a set of trails in Val-des-Monts, with access from Hwy 366, which offer classic skiers an opportunity to explore more rugged terrain. Nakkertok Val-des-Monts is also the point of departure for the annual Weber Loppet and the venue for Thea’s Race in the spring. It also features a main chalet where you can warm up. The backcountry trails at Val-des-Monts are groomed by snowmobile track-setter for classic skiing only at present.

Val-des-Monts’ trails are generally more challenging than those of South, but there are some nice short loops. Many members have never discovered what Val-des-Monts has to offer. The snow lasts longer, the hills are beautiful, and there are certainly some thrills.
