A quick lunch time ski!

Kudos to the grooming crew. Holding off on grooming until it got cold was the right call, and now the trails are starting to really come together.

Yes it was cold. The trees blocked the wind and made the ski very enjoyable.

The campground trails are still rough in places, with no classic track set, yet. Watch out for rocks just below the surface on trail 12 on the western uphill.

Over on the lower trails, the grooming is mint. Nice classic track on most of the lower trail system, and a solid skate lane. The TCT is really nice - easy to get up to speed, easy to stay at speed - and mostly out of the wind. The field trails are suffering from a bit of drifting (man, windblown snow is slow!) - and the wind started to push me backwards! 107 (little roller coaster) isn't open, but that's ok because 106 (roller coaster) is fun.

I was spoiled over the Christmas holidays skiing at North Bay Nordic. Having a clubhouse to change footwear is really really nice (oh yeah that being social thing too). And now that the campground trails are open, so is Kanata Nordic's clubhouse (just push hard on the door).

Remember the Pretzel Sprint race is taking place on Sunday. All other trails are open - so come on over and watch a couple of races and get some urban skiing in.

About Skiing in the Kanata Area..

Kanata Nordic ski club is a volunteer-run club dedicated to promoting lifelong activity, fitness and enjoyment of the outdoors through a variety of cross-country ski programs and activities offered in a friendly club setting. Established in 1979, Kanata Nordic now calls Wesley Clover Parks home with a growing trail-network for all skiers to enjoy. The club is a member of Cross Country Ontario (CCO) and Cross Country Canada (CCC).

The club grooms and maintains approx. 18km of trails at 401 Corkstown Road.

Trails are groomed 3 times per week by volunteer groomers. Tracksetting occurs after each significant snowfall and just prior to Saturday lessons (usually January through March). Trail conditions will vary depending on snowfall and snow conditions.

Trails at the YMCA Bonnenfant Outdoor Centre are NOT MAINTAINED.

A day pass for skiing is $7.00 ($5.00 for snowshoeing) payable at the trailhead or online. Members receive a season trail pass as part of their club membership.
