Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Gatineau Pkwy , #1 Penguin Climb, #1, Gatineau Pkwy, #4, #14, Glide Wax: Violet, Grip Wax: Now that's tricky..

What a beautiful ski day! More Spring like than the usual January cold and as such a LOT of people were out enjoying themselves. I figured that out when the right lane of Hwy 105 was backed up almost to Haute Plaine at 8:45am! (We need those trains back!!)

The grooming on the parkways was perfect, Ridge was excellent. Where it hasn't been groomed yet, it was harder going, but still lots of glide and lots of fun. Conditions are fast but the snow is soft, not sluchy just starting to glaze at 11 as temperatures neared 0C.

Classic waxing was tricky. We debated what worked and what didn't. A klister binder on the parkways was an advantage where more there is ice mixed in to the tracks, but on Ridge the tracks are fresh snow and that klister base tended to ice up. In the end we decided that Vauhti K-base hardwax covered with K12 would have been the best bet for the various mix of snow types. Zero skis, hairies, skins, and many other things would have worked too..just a matter of experimenting more.

If you haven't skied yet, get out and enjoy!
