Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Gatineau Pkwy , Gatineau Pkwy, Champlain Pkwy, Glide Wax: CH8, Grip Wax:

This afternoon I skated from P8 up the GP and CP to Mulvihill Lake and back. Skate conditions were surprisingly good, with around 3cm of fresh dry powder that had fallen this morning covering a crunchy base starting to turn from slush to ice. There had been no grooming, which was just as well, since a groomed track would have frozen into a sheet of ice. It was certainly not fast, but it was a very pleasant ski. The fresh powder allowed for perfectly controlled descents. In most places the classic track had not been skied in, and usually it was not possible to see where the track had been before Sunday's thaw and rain. Assuming the parkways are groomed tonight conditions should be excellent tomorrow morning. If you do go for a late afternoon ski today put on an extra layer since there is a strong NW wind.
