Gatineau Park

Trails Skied: Champlain Pkwy, #1, #1B, Champlain Pkwy, MacKenzie-King Rd , Glide Wax: CH7, Grip Wax:

It's another great ski day in Gatineau Park. I skate skied from P6 up the CP to the Champlain Lookout, then took 1B to the intersection with 1A above Western, 1A and 1 to Huron, and then back on the parkway. A couple of centimeters of fluffy snow had fallen since the last grooming, giving excellent glide and control. It's a perfect day to practice technique and long glides. The corduroy was barely visible under the fresh snow and recent heavy traffic, but it didn't matter. The fresh snow in the tracks made for smooth and controlled (if not very fast) descents. The tracks seemed a bit shallow, probably as the result of the snow fall after grooming. 1B was in excellent shape, with no trace of icy patches on the steep downhills. Classic skiers reported good grip with Blue Extra type waxes. I call the CP between Mica and the FP the Empty Quarter, and as usual I saw very few other skiers on this section. It's a good place to go if you are trying to avoid weekend crowds. P6 had probably been full earlier in the morning, but there were lots of empty spaces when I arrived around noon.
