Feb 9 (7M, 2w) by Tom Conklin from Champlain Park
Trails Skied: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 [0km], Glide Wax: -7 to .-15, Grip Wax:
ROUTE: Started at Champlain and did all of the Western parts, then went east to the treatment plant road.

SKATE: Really good conditions. Fairly fast. Much softer than Gatineau Park but still quite quick. There is a fair bit of foot traffic that leaves big divots in the snow but it doesn't really get in the way of progress. Overall the grooming is solid especially considering how many different kinds of uses the track gets.

CLASSIC: The track looked really solid in places and washed out in others. Overall there was a clear path and a lot of people were out enjoying it.

TRAFFIC: The Champlain lot was mostly full around 10 and wasn't much different closer to noon.

WEATHER: Cool, but fine. Not a lot of wind today at all.

About Skiing the SJAM..

A groomed multi-use winter trail along the Sir John A. Macdonald (SJAM) multi-use pathway (MUP) will promote active living and provide access to the Ottawa River shoreline, welcoming a diversity of users, whether they are walking, on skis, snowshoes or a snow bike. The salt-free trail will respect environmental sensitivities unique to the river shoreline.

The trail will connect the Canadian War Museum with park lands along the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway to Westboro Beach, animating spaces that until now have been little used in the winter. Transit stations border the trail at LeBreton Flats, Bayview/O-train and Dominion Stations, with parking at Westboro Beach, Champlain Park and the Canadian War Museum, providing ready access for visitors from around the National Capital Region.

Two tracks will be set, one for snowshoers, walkers and bikers and the other for cross-country skiers, supporting both classic and skate style techniques. The walking track will follow the existing pathway. Serpentine loops will add distance to the ski track at the Selby Plains and Remic Rapids greenspaces and at open lands adjacent to the War Museum and Champlain Bridge, for an expected distance of 16 kilometres. more..
