Green Belt

Trails Skied: 23-2.7km, 23-2.3km, Glide Wax: , Grip Wax:

I was out hiking on trail 23 from P5 today so I just thought I would drop by to update and confirm the obvious, it's still not skiable out there in the western greenbelt. Today's dusting of snow did nothing to improve things. Trail is icy and irregular, no tracks remain, although a base does remain and there aren't many open spots.

Yesterday I hiked on the trails south of P8 and they were marginally better, mostly a granular surface, but too irregular for skiing. Hiking is nice though with crampons or other anti-skid footwear, with no worries of destroying the ski tracks since they are long gone until we get more snow.

Kichi Sibi Winter Trail

The National Capital Greenbelt has over 100km of trails and another 25km of recreational pathways, most of which are suitable for cross-country skiing in the wintertime. All of the trails are suitable for beginner and family outings. Some are now maintained by volunteer groomers; OWWT, BWT, SHE, Kichi Sibi.

ONSC grooms The Hornet's Nest (Tauvette street to Montreal Rd), Mer Bleue and Pine Grove Forest (the section off Leitrum Rd). Trails are classic skiing ONLY, no skating is allowed on these trails. The Hornet's Nest is groomed at least weekly and the others as time permits. Updated trail conditions are available at the snow phone; 613-837-SNOW.
